“I believe that appreciation is a HOLY thing - that when we look for what’s best in a person we happen to be with at the moment, we’re doing what GOD does all the time. So, in loving and appreciating our neighbor, we are participating in something sacred.“ Fred Rogers
Many of us are struggling today with a lot of emotional upheaval and not feeling very appreciative. The pandemic and social unrest has caused many issues for all of us to cope with: FEAR of the Covid-19 virus or fear of all the changes happening around us. LOSS of a job/income which has financially burdened you and/or your family. Or maybe the loss of a loved one or friend when we cannot gather to celebrate their life as we may want to. DISAPPOINTMENT and/or ANGER because life has so drastically been altered. LONELINESS or DEPRESSION because of one or all of the above. These are all legitimate feelings that many of us are having. ALL of us are a little anxious. But we all can find things to appreciate in our lives and ways we can appreciate others. Here are a few tips from the Stephen Ministry that may help: 1. Look for ways of seeing your “neighbor” as God sees them. Do a random act of kindness - a phone call, card, email or an “over the fence” visit! 2. Get outside as much as possible! Sit in your yard or porch, or if able, take a walk so that you get regular sunshine and fresh air! 3. Begin a “Thankfulness Journal.” Start or end each day by listing 3 things you are thankful for and why. 4. Attend Mass or a Daily Mass when possible or perhaps a Mass or study online! 5.
